Chakra Meditation



Chakra is the Sanskrit word for "wheel". In yoga, chakras are the points in the body where energy or prana enters and is distributed throughout the rest of the physical body. There are many chakras in the body but the seven major ones are represented here. Each chakra has psychological and physical meaning attached to it. If at any time you feel uncomfortable emotionally or physically, you should stop the meditation. Not all meditations are for every person.


Gently bring your attention to the base of your spine
Visualize the first chakras here at the base of your spine
Breath the color red into this point of the body
Feel the rootedness and security of the first chakra
Send the color and the feeling throughout the rest of your body

Visualize the second chakra in the middle of the pelvis,
halfway between the navel and the pubic bone
Breathe the color orange into this point in the body
Feel the ability to create life that is the second chakra
Send that color and energy throughout the rest of the body

Visualize the fourth chakra in the center of the chest
Breathe the color green into this point of the body
Feel the love in your life that is the fourth chakra
Send that color and the energy through the rest of your body

Visualize the third chakra just behind the navel
Breathe the color sunny yellow into this point of the body
Feel the power that you have over your life
that is part of the energy of the third chakra
Send that color and energy through the rest of the body

Visualize the fifth chakra at the base of your throat
Breathe a beautiful sky blue into this point of the body
Feel the ability to speak that is part of the fifth chakra
Send that color and energy throughout your body

Visualize the sixth chakra at the point on your forehead,
between your two eyes
Breathe the deep color of indigo blue into this point
Feel the power of perception that is the energy of the sixth chakra
Send that color and energy throughout your body

Visualize the seventh chakra at the crown of your head
Breathe the color violet into this point in the body
Feel the power of consciousness and being that is the seventh chakra
Send this energy down into the spine,
into all the other chakras,
and out through the rest of your body and beyond

And rest now, simply being for a short while.
Become aware of your breath again
Become aware of your hands, feet
Stretch and move into your body.
Give thanks for the body that carries your spirit
and gives you a place to live on this earth.

Om shanti, shanti, shanti. Shanti means peace, Namaste.
